
Perform with the DMO
Concerto Competition
Win the chance to perform a concerto with the Durham Medical Orchestra as part of a season concert at Baldwin Auditorium.
In furtherance of DMO’s mission to unite the local community, we invite eligible passionate musicians in the Triangle and surrounding communities to participate in the DMO Concerto Competition. The winner(s) perform a movement or a whole concerto with the DMO as part of a season concert at Baldwin Auditorium.
Round 1
Video submission
Applicants submit an unedited video recording of their proposed solo work via the online application form.
Round 2
Final live audition
Finalists are invited to a live audition in the Nelson Music Room on Duke’s East Campus before a judging panel of distinguished local musical professionals.
Eligibility
Who can apply
To be eligible, a musician must satisfy at least ONE of the following:
- Adult musicians ages 30 and over.
- Current active DMO members, regardless of age or profession.
- Eligible students training to become Medical Professionals (21+, in an undergraduate pre-professional track or a graduate / professional Medical Professional program).
"Medical Professionals" includes doctors, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical technicians, researchers, and educators. Active and retired Medical Professionals are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
- Solo work(s) of 30 minutes or less, written with orchestral accompaniment.
- The orchestral parts must be available via IMSLP, rental, or purchase.
- Soloists must be available for spring rehearsals — the DMO rehearses Sunday evenings on Duke’s East Campus.
Video guidelines
- Recording must be unedited and no more than 6 months old.
- Upload to YouTube (public or unlisted) and include the link in the application form.
Application fee
A $50 application fee applies. The fee is waived for current DMO members and eligible students; hardship exceptions are considered case by case.
